TAVISTOCK Charter Group is inviting budding writers to join this year?s celebrations commemorating the town receiving its market charter in 1105 and its Stannary status in 1305. All West Devon residents are being given the chance to write a short story or poem that may be included in an anthology to be launched on Goose Fair Day, October 12. There are no age restrictions for entry but the piece must be linked in some way with these two important events for Tavistock. Events co-ordinator Moira Andrews said: ?It really will be fun because all the budding authors will have to do some research to ensure the details in their pieces are correct, and that includes making sure they know how all the people lived in those times, even down to identifying typical names of the period. It will really bring it all to life.? If you are stuck for ideas Tavistock Library on Plymouth Road has many reference books and even has computers available for typing up the stories. Another useful place for getting information is Tavistock Museum at Court Gate. There is no cost for entry and the reward for those authors whose submissions are chosen will not only be able to see their names in print, but will also receive two free copies of the book. Full details are available from the library and all entries must be received no later than May 31, 2005.
