JUNK band' Weapons of Sound who started the Commonwealth Games in Manchester with a piece led by Olympic Gold medalist Steve Redgrave hail from Plymouth — and were started ten years ago by the Estover Percussion Project and Okehampton-based music charity The Wren Trust.
No-one is more pleased than Wren founder Marilyn Tucker.
'We got Weapons of Sound going thanks to a grant from Plymouth City Council and they have been moving onwards and upwards ever since under their own steam,' she said.
Wren will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next year and hopes Weapons of Sound will be one of the guests.
And in keeping with the games' 'Spirit of Friendship Festival' theme of multi-culturalism Wren has scooped a prestigious gig this summer — taking over the main arena at the Sidmouth International Folk Festival on the final night tomorrow (Friday) to present a community arts and music spectacular entitled Dragons.
