AS the scourge of foot and mouth disease advances across the country can it be that our government really insists on an election in May? It does give a message of terrible cynicism if canvassers and post deluge our doorsteps at a time when farmers are imprisoning themselves to protect their animals and the nation's food supply.

Concern for our farm workers, considering these spoors can travel on shoes, clothes, wind and even letters, would be a much worthier example to the electorate. Can we reasonably expect them to vote when they have such distress? Would it be a fair result?

I advocate that we support our leaders and our government but that those leading us should set an example worthy of their station. Had this virus affected computers instead of cattle would our government order all computers to be destroyed?

A big thank you to our vicar, the Rev John Rawlings, for showing the way inviting prayer to the One Who can change things. Bible history and even our own at Dunkirk in the last war reveals Who has the power to change things when we ask.
