A CHARITY fundraiser from Lydford and a teenager from Jacobstowe are this year's West Devon Mayoral Award winners.
The two were chosen from a wide and diverse range of nominations for outstanding achievements within the borough.
A panel of selectors unanimously chose Lydford fundraiser David Hocking to receive the mayor's over 18s award for his tireless work for charity over a number of years.
David, a cancer patient himself, has raised more than £43,000 for various charities, including the oncology and radiotherapy departments at Derriford Hospital, through a number of locally-held events.
He was nominated by Bridestowe Parish Council.
Jacobstowe teenager Oliver Hancox, who has raised awareness and funds for Cancer Research by becoming the youngest person to sail across the English Channel single-handed, is this year's winner of the under 18s award.
Oliver, who was just 15 at the time of his challenge, lost his father to cancer in 2008. He was nominated by his local councillor, David Weeks.
Recognising achievements in the community, the Mayor's Green Award has this year gone to Bratton Clovelly Village Hall Committee, for their successful renewable energy project.
They were nominated by Bratton Clovelly Parish Council for the work they have done in making their village hall 'green' by maximising renewable energy sources.
Mayor of West Devon, Cllr John Hockridge, who chaired the panel of selectors, said: 'We were delighted to be able to choose three such worthy winners.
'They have all proved commitment to their individual causes and communities.'
The awards will be presented at the full council meeting in April.
