OKEHAMPTON Primary School has recently held a number of workshops to provide challenging thinking opportunities for gifted and talented pupils.

The workshops were open to Key Stage 2 pupils gifted in Maths and English. During the Maths workshop the children built 3D models focusing on triangular numbers and developed team working and team building skills.

The English workshop focused on the poem 'Goblin Market' by Christina Rossetti and involved story telling, drama and the children wrote and framed their own poems.

This term the school aims to further develop the workshop programme significantly through the new Socrates Society.

The school will be holding a series of workshops tailored to meet the needs of Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 pupils with the aim to bring gifted and talented children from across the county together so they can learn from each other and work alongside like-minded individuals.

The Socrates Society will hold workshops covering maths, English, science, geography, art and music. Author of the Bradley Baker series David Lawrence Jones, will deliver a workshop sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with the children.

If you would like your child to take part in any of the workshops, contact Sally Huxen on 01837 52866.
