APRIL is a busy month for Tavistock Library, with workshops and a visiting author for book-lovers to enjoy. The library is holding two events as part of the Tavistock Music and Arts Festival which runs from April 20 to May 5. The first is a practical workshop about travel writing. Entitled 'Bridging Land and Water with Words', writers Myfanwy Cook, Jackie Waddle and Ann Pulsford will be running this two-hour workshop on Monday April 28 between 1 and 3pm. Guests will have the chance to learn the skills to write an effective and enticing travel article, focusing on the Tamar Valley and Tavistock. Booking is essential. Free tickets are available from the library. For further information contact Caroline Keane on 01822 610546. This event is sponsored by the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The second event, on Wednesday April 30 at 2.30pm, sees author Ann Stirland talking about her book Raising the Dead. The anthropologist and palaeopathologist's book centres on her work on the ship the Mary Rose. Tickets are free but booking is essential due to limited spaces. Executive member for culture, Cllr Sheila Hobden, said: 'These are two excellent events at a lively library which is at the very heart of its community.'
