EXTRA police visits will be made to Callington Social Club after complaints about disturbances.

The club has been issued with category A status by police, meaning it will receive more visits then usual by officers.

Licensing officer John Olver said police were working with the club to improve the situation. He said a number of reports had been received about general nuisance caused by people were leaving the premises.

Mr Olver said: 'We are working together to try and solve all this.

'We hope it will not be necessary to go as far as reviewing the licence.'

But secretary of the social club Chris Neave said the club felt unfairly victimised and extra police attention would drive away staff and customers.

Mr Neave said: 'We are getting the blame for everything going on in Well Street.

'It rubbishes our good name which we have worked hard to achieve and we feel it is putting people off using the club.'

Disorder on Well Street was discussed at a recent PACT meeting (Police and Communities Together) in the town.
