TWO West Devon women have been doing more than their bit to help the Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) by donating their time and helping to raise vital funds.

Shona Pollard and Jenny Fielder regularly volunteer at CHSW's charity shop in Tavistock and have now handed over a cheque for £432.50 — money they raised in sponsorship for taking part in CHSW's Moonlight Memory Walk last autumn.

Jenny, from Tavistock, said: 'Shona and I really enjoy helping out in the shop. Everyone is so friendly and it's such a rewarding thing to do.

'We are passionate about supporting Children's Hospice South West and so started thinking about what else we could do.

'When we heard about the Moonlight Memory Walk in Plymouth we thought it would be a really lovely way to get involved as it was something we could do together. It was a wonderful evening and we are really pleased that we have been able to raise well over £400 for completing the walk.'

The Moonlight Memory Walk is a ladies-only five-mile walk to celebrate precious memories and raise much-needed funds for CHSW.  Around 150 women took part in the Plymouth walk this year and pledged around £10,000 in sponsorship.

Judy Pride, West Devon community fundraiser for CHSW's Little Harbour children's hospice, said: 'As a charity we simply could not do what we do without our fantastic band of volunteers and the generosity of local people who donate to our cause.

'At Children's Hospice South West we support families facing the most unimaginable of circumstances — the reality that their child is not expected to reach adulthood.  They come to us for a range of emergency, palliative and end of life care, but most of all for much-needed respite and to make the most of every precious moment they have together as a family.

'From volunteering at one of our shops to putting some pennies in a tin next time you come past, from taking part in one of our fundraising events to organising one of your own, there are so many different ways you can help us raise a smile for local children and families.'
