OKEHAMPTON resident Ryan Voaden has been awarded the title of best light vehicle level 2 apprentice 2011 by Exeter College.

Ryan, who attended Okehampton Primary and Okehampton College, has been studying for the NVQ 2 qualification in Exeter and training with MacCullock and Sons Garage in his home town. The college gave Ryan the award for his outstanding progress and high level of commitment shown to his work. He was happy with the recognition: 'It feels great to actually achieve something. I'm going to crack on for next year and keep working hard.

'The studies have been slightly difficult at times, but I've enjoyed it. We get very good training at the college, and here at the garage.'

Stuart MacCullock, who has been working with Ryan, said: 'He's very conscientious, and very good at his job. He's got a natural gift for the motor trade. He wants to do things properly. He's always willing to learn, which seems to be rare these days!'

Ryan intends to continue his studies to earn further NVQ qualifications.
