THE first concert to be held at Roadford Lake?s new function venue, Lakeside between Launceston and Okehampton takes place on Friday December 9. The concert, Yuletide, celebrates the festive season and will be performed by a small professional group as part of their Words and Songs programme. Words and Songs had its first performances at the Cheltenham Everyman Theatre in 2003 at which song flows into word and word into song with a growing dramatic tension and the sense of a journey though the season. Yuletide is a wide ranging and joyous programme with traditional carols, and music of Britten, Cornelius, Handel and Sir Henry Bishop interweaved with the words of Donne, T. S Eliot, Dickens, Laurie Lee, Betjeman, Shakespeare and Zephaniah. Tickets are available from South West Lakes Trust head office on 01566 771930 priced at £10 per person including mulled wine and mince pies on arrival. The concert will start at 7pm and all proceeds will go towards re-building the children?s play area at Roadford Lake.
