MOUNT House School from Tavistock won their local heat of the 2010 Times Spelling Bee at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth. The team competed against eight teams from local schools.

The Mount House School team consisted of Luke Measelle, 12, Charlie Macaecharn, 11, Oliver Rose, 12, with Isabel Kidner,12, as a reserve. 

The team showed their mastery by successfully spelling words such as 'ministerial' and 'initiate'.

Sally Butcher, teacher from Mount House said: 'Last year we came last so it's exciting to win this year.'

Mount House School will go forward to The Times Spelling Bee semi-finals in May. 

The ten winning teams from that will then travel to London to compete in the grand final at the Institute of Education on June 24.
