ONE of Britain?s most historic ships is set to be boosted by a special event being held at Roadford Lake next month. The Log to Leg Challenge, a race to create an intricately carved belaying pin from a log for the Kathleen and May Schooner, will be part of a fun-packed day of wood-themed activities at the annual Woodfair, held on July 9. The hand-crafted wooden pins will be used on the historic vessel, moored at Bideford. The Log to Leg Challenge is one of many events being held at the fair. People can discover what it takes to become a charcoal maker, learn about hurdle making, thatching, basketry, furniture, and the manufacture of long bows and timber framed buildings. For adventure seekers there is laser paintball, mountain bike displays, boat trips on the lake, ferret racing, fire juggling, circus skills and Samba music, folk music, fine food and competitions. Fair entrance is £5 per adult, under 16s go free.
