Tavistock A 3 Marjons D 2 TAVISTOCK A Hockey team entertained League leaders Marjons, knowing this would be a hard fought match. Marjons needed to win as this would help strengthen their position for promotion. Tavistock had a strong squad and Captain Cooley had the opportunity to rotate the team. The game started well for the home side and after a few missed chances Mackintosh opened the scoring. Tavistock, ahead with a narrow margin, battled hard and new goalkeeper Roberts frustrated the opposition with some good saves. Tavistock soaked up the pressure from Marjons and the defence of Costello, George and Glanville held out. Marjons finally penetrated the strong defence and by half time had taken the lead to go into the break two goals to one. Tavistock, out of the promotion chase, still wanted the three points. Tavistock got back into the game as Cowan Jnr struck the ball well to level. Marjons had a few chances to win the match but it was not to be. With twenty minutes to go Wood came back onto the pitch, and with a solo effort put the ball past the Marjons goalkeeper and the home side had the lead again. This was a good win for Tavistock and with only two matches remaining will finish in the top half of the table.
