ROALD Dahl?s cheerful detestation of children boils to the surface like nuts in a vat of molten goo in the film revival of his classic story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ? the first of Okehampton Moving Pictures? screenings this year. Filmgoers can see Johnny Depp as the reclusive and eccentric confectioner Willy Wonka this Saturday (January 7) at the Charter Hall at 7.30pm. Directed by Tim Burton, this PG certificate fantasy follows Charlie and the other golden ticket winners on a tour of the amazing factory run by Wonka and his staff of Oompa-Loompas. The Rev Philip Wagstaff, chair of OMP, said the New Year would bring new ways for the community group to evolve. He said the group was looking to develop work with young people in film production as well as the possibility of working with other groups in the town to stage a film festival which could use many venues in the town. He stressed this was very much at the initial discussion stage at the moment. Mr Wagstaff said the group, run by volunteers was keen to expand into the surrounding area: ?We are exploring ways of going out into the villages and showing films there and are applying for grants to fund a co-ordinator post,? he said. Also showing at the Charter Hall later this month are My Summer of Love (Cert 15) and A Good Woman (PG). All tickets are £4 and are available from the box office on the night.
