Devon Second XI B

Tavistock seconds v Bideford seconds.

ON a damp day Bideford put Tavistock into bat, they got off to a speedy start with Webber dispatching the ball to all parts.

Goodchild joined in until he was caught behind for 17 with the score on 40 after the sixth over.

Webber continued to dispatch the ball around the Ring but his decisions on singles were not as good as he ran out first Cummings and then captain McGahey.

Chappell and Gliddon soon followed as Webber continued to accumulate runs, he was supported by Dave Jeffrey who scored a diligent 41.

Webber reached his century with a boundary and not satisfied with this continued onto 151 before finally falling to Barrett. This innings put Tavistock in total control with 276 on the board.

Bideford never looked like reaching this total.

Wayne Downham bowled Weeks and Argyle played on as did George with a ball too quick for the youngster.

Wood and Shepherd held fast for a few overs before Jeffrey ripped one back and bowled Shepherd for five.

McGahey then got things going again and the off spin of Stephens came into the attack; he first bowled Barrett, then had Stewart caught by McGahey at silly mid-on and then Shepherd skyed one to Chappell in the gully.

Mills then came on to take the key wicket off Wood (34) with a seamer which slipped through his defence.

P Stephens then went to pull Mills and was bowled.

With time running out, McGahey turned to Downham and in his last over he had King caught and bowled to give Tavistock a 174 run win.

Tavistock seconds are now promoted to the A division and need six points next week to be champions.
