AN elderly woman was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a flat in Horrabridge last Thursday.

One fire crew from Tavistock and one from Yelverton attended Phoenix Close just before 4.20am and on arrival found smoke coming from the flat. They requested an ambulance for the elderly woman, who was rescued from the building by firefighters.

The fire was located in the first floor kitchen and the crews used two sets of breathing apparatus and one hosereel jet to extinguish the blaze.

The woman was taken to hospital by land ambulance.
