POLICE, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene of an accident where a car was left hanging over the side of an eight-metre drop on Sunday. A spokesman for Tavistock fire crew said the accident happened at around 11.30am at Bearslake on the A386, and involved a difficult rescue. A car had left the road and was hanging over the side of the drop, on its side, with one woman occupant and her dog trapped inside. No other vehicles were involved. A local resident managed to release the dog prior to the arrival of the emergency services, but the woman remained trapped inside for almost one and a half hours. The fire service used heavy cutting and spreading equipment to remove the boot area of the car to allow for ambulance personnel to gain entry. The woman was later removed to Derriford Hospital with suspected spinal injuries. Traffic was diverted through Bridestowe while the rescue took place.
