POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a blaze in a basement flat at Horrabridge last Wednesday night (December 22). Fire crews from Yelverton, Tavistock and Plympton attended the fire in the Manor Garage premises on the main A386. Yelverton firefighter Alan Brown said the flat was ?severely damaged? by the fire ? smoke had also spread to four other basement flats of the premises, none of which were occupied. Firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus and two hosereels to extinguish the fire ? a unit from Plympton was also called to help with smoke extraction. A police spokesman said: ?Early indications are that the cause of the fire is of doubtful origin and enquiries have commenced. ?Anyone who was in the vicinity between 10.30pm and 11.10pm and saw any persons or suspicious activity or have any information about the cause of the fire are requested to contact the police via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.? The police reference for the incident is 1550 22/12/04. l Police in Tavistock are appealing for information following the theft of a piece of Raku pottery from a town centre gallery, some time between December 21 and 23. PC Simon Raeburn said the crackle-glazed statue of a horse, which is predominantly white in colour, was worth £245 and was made by Keze Rudge.
