POLICE in Tavistock this week issued an urgent appeal for information, following a vicious unprovoked attack in the town last weekend. A man in his early 30s was set upon by two young men between 1am and 2am on Sunday December 17, near Court Gate and the burger van in Guildhall Square car park. PC Dominic Waites said: 'This was an unprovoked assault on a single man by two people. 'The injured man was taken to Derriford Hospital unconscious and will be off work for several weeks, if not months. 'Basically I think he has been punched to the floor and then kicked and the offenders fled. 'There must have been about 15 to 20 people around the burger van at the time — someone must have seen what happened and they need to come forward — this type of behaviour is just not acceptable.' The two men who fled the scene are believed to be white, aged 18 to 25. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information should call PC Waites at Tavistock Police Station, quoting crime ref JT/06/1702.
