THE past week has been an excellent one for Mount House cricket teams, with the first XI and the under 12s both getting through to the next rounds of the Devon Cup, three victories out of three against St Peter?s Lympstone, and both Colts teams coming out on top in their away matches against Truro Prep. In the Devon Cup the first XI?s opening pair, Dominic Scaglioni and Rhys Davis, shared an undefeated opening partnership, scoring 142 runs in their 20 overs against Kelly College U13s ? Dom made 62 no and Rhys 56 no. The Kelly batsmen were always behind the run rate, though their openers played steadily. The introduction of Julian Bertie and Jack Rathborne saw wickets tumble. Bertie?s five for eight earned him the match ball from former England wicketkeeper Roger Tolchard who was umpiring. The U12s managed to restrict their opponents from Tavistock College to just 18, with Sale and Jayarajah taking three wickets each. Mount House passed this total for the loss of five wickets. The Mount House first, second and third XIs were in action against St Peter?s Lympstone. The first XI batted first, and declared on 183 for 3, with Scaglioni (69 no), Pope (44) and Cousens (36). The spin bowling of Cousens and Scaglioni saw St Peter?s all out for 117. The second XI won by a similar margin, in their case 118. Again Mount House batted first and posted a healthy 152 for 7, thanks to an 84-run partnership between Elliott Woodhead (59 no) and Tristan Searight (31). The visitors collapsed to 34 all out with Jack Galsworthy and Elliott Woodhead taking three wickets each. The third XI outplayed their opponents to record a win by 149 runs. Outstanding contributions came from Alex Zervudachi, Joe Williams and Tom Sylvester with the bat and Jack Williams with the ball. Mount House Colts A team were put in to bat by Truro Prep and declared at 90 for 8. Ollie Sale with 5 for 10 in 2.5 overs earned Mount victory by 44 runs. Colts B scored 104 for 8 in their 20 overs then restricted Truro Prep to 42 all out with fine bowling performances from Max Taylor (3 for 1) and Jonathon Massey (2 for 2) to win by 62 runs.
