THE young and up-and-coming rock band recently voted best young group at this summer?s Battle of the Bands in Okehampton plays Tavistock tomorrow (Friday). Imij is a young instrumental rock band from the Tavistock area, who incorporate blues, funk and jazz into rock, producing a contemporary cutting edge sound with a unique and individual style. The band scooped a record deal for winning their best young band title during the Okehampton ?battle? ? and their lead guitarist P J was awarded the trophy for best musician, competing against musicians in established bands from across Devon and Cornwall. Along with P J Bennett is Zoë Bennett on bass and Daniel Hooton on drums, all talented young musicians. Their inspiration is drawn from Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Cream, Pink Floyd, John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, as well as blues and jazz musicians, fusing to produce a tight and exciting set. Supporting Imij is FELIX from Okehampton, another exciting new band for rock enthusiasts to note. There has been a recent trend of phenomenal music coming out of Devon and these bands prove it is continuing to do so. Support young musicians and come along to enjoy a good night out. Tickets are £4 available at the door on the night, 8 pm, at King?s off Pixon Lane, Tavistock (01822 614091). Further enquiries tel 01822 810416.
