Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 1
Chudleigh 1
THE game opened with Tavistock heavy on the attack and creating some good lead runs up the pitch. Susannah Boulle and Emma White worked hard through midfield and were able to feed good balls to the running forward play of Laura Armstrong and Jo Gaspar.
Possession was a key factor in the game and Tavistock were losing the ball through silly mistakes. This resulted in the ball being brought into the defending?D? and Tavistock?s goalkeeper, Zoe Viggers, making some great saves. The defence of Tavistock was tight with Chudleigh finding it difficult to find a gap.
A foot fault in the ?D? resulted in a Chudleigh corner from which they scored a direct strike at the keeper.
The second half saw a much more determined Tavistock. White, Stapleton and Dunn linked well together and Butler had some excellent lead runs up the pitch and fed some good balls across to Gaspar, Armstrong and Becky Hutton.
It did appear that the only players likely of scoring were Armstrong and Gaspar as they were goal hungry and determined to make something of the ball when in the ?D?. Butler and Dunn continued to link well and a free hit from Boulle to Dunn allowed Dunn to switch the ball to the other side of the pitch. With Tavistock definitely the attacking team, Armstrong picked up the pace in her game play. Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and although the injection and strike was good, the opposition were extremely quick to run after the ball. Tavistock?s luck changed and an excellent ball in from Armstrong allowed Butler to take a strike and Gaspar get the rebound ball to take the score to 1-1.
Tavistock kept battling and White, Boulle, Stapleton and Dunn worked hard to prevent Chudleigh from being a threat in defence allowing the ball to be kept in the attacking area. The winning goal evaded both teams and the final score was 1-1.
