TAVISTOCK Carnival has received a major cash boost after building compan, George Wimpey, agreed to sponsor the event. George Wimpey, which is building homes at Manor Grove, will sponsor the whole of carnival week. Jeff Lea, chairman of the Lions Club?s carnival committee, said the club was delighted with the involvement of George Wimpey. The money used will cover some of the costs of staging the procession and any additional expenditure needed this year. By covering the costs it will allow more money raised during the week to be given to local charities and organisations involved, said Mr Lea. Janine Davey, field sales manager for George Wimpey, said: ?We have always enjoyed building homes in Tavistock. The people and local businesses have always made us most welcome, having built homes in the town for over 30 years. ?We are delighted to show our commitment to the residents of Tavistock by sponsoring the local carnival and are looking forward to taking part in many of the carnival events ourselves.? Plans for the week, which starts on Saturday, July 8 with Jazz at the Bridge, are almost finished and the complete programme will be announced in the near future. The main carnival day itself will be Saturday, July 15, the theme for this year being ?Peoples of the World?.
