A FORMER student president at Tavistock College confronts some rather formidable opposition this week as he faces Anne Robinson on TV quiz show ?The Weakest Link?.

Ben Rich, 19, who has sung with St Eustachius Choir since he was six years old and played violin for the Devon Youth Orchestra, is currently studying for a degree in geography at Southampton University and eventually hopes to become a journalist.

Pressed as to how he did on the show Ben revealed little and would only say: ?Ann Robinson really is as scary as everybody says she is, but I was happy with how I did!?

Ben has wanted to go on a game show since he was quite young but only got round to filling in an application form for ?The Weakest Link? last year.

He said: ?I didn?t expect anything from it really but nine months later I got a letter asking me to audition ? and from there a place in the show.

?The set is intimidating ? it?s quite large and very dark and they play music all the time to put you off!?

?It?s filmed in Pinewood Studios which was exciting and they fed us sandwiches, bagels and lots of cups of tea so it was a really good day, lots of fun.?

Ben says he has no further plans to bolster his 15 minutes of fame although he did try to get on ?Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? but gave up after discovering the telephone bills were too much for his student budget.

The show featuring Ben will be aired on BBC2 tomorrow (Friday) at 5.15pm.
