Callington Community College has been authorised to deliver a world recognised qualification which will open up travel and education opportunities for sixth form students.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) will be added to the college sixth form education programme from September 2009.

This curriculum package requires students to study six subjects in addition to three core elements that encourage independent learning and involvement in their creative and volunteering activities.

Students opting for the IB will be encouraged to forge international links with other IB schools, participate in a range of international trips and develop a strong understanding of their place in the world and what they can contribute as a world citizen.

The college has been working hard to prepare for the International Baccalaureate (IB) for two years.

Acting headteacher Paula Ramsden said there would be huge benefits for the college. It would be a part of the IB international community and have access to a range of international teaching and learning materials.

Students would be able to take this international qualification to many universities in the world.

'The International Baccalaureate is a highly prestigious and respected qualification both in the UK and around the world,' she said.

'It opens up yet another tremendous opportunity for the young people here at Callington Community College.

'We are delighted to be in the very strong successful position that we are in, in order to be able to deliver this qualification and meet the exacting standards of the International Baccalaureate organisation.'
