TAVISTOCK Tennis Club has completed its programme of matches in the league where results were mixed with some wide margins.

Results: Wk 9: Mens? A team drew 4-4 at home against Ivybridge B. Sean Jefferson/Simon Prout v their 1st pair; 4-6, 5-7: v 2nd pair; 6-3, 6-2. Josh Brown/Terry Lanchbery v their 1st pair; 1-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 7-5.

Ladies ? C team in a postponed match lost 2-6 away against Liskeard. Josie Gerhold/Gaynor Pollard v their 1st pair; 0-2: v 2nd pair; 2-0. Babette Jackson/Pat Warne v their 1st pair; 0-2, v 2nd pair; 0-2.

Friendly match: Won 6-4 at home against Yelverton who unfortunately could not field one pair at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances, so to avoid a postponement, Tavistock players Olga Rogers and Ray Hinton gallantly stood in to make up their team. The match was played on the basis of MXDs two sets per match with one set each LDs and MDs on a hot afternoon lasting 3 1/2 hours. Tavistock players; Babette/John Jackson and Claudine/Bill Sparks. l It is with sadness that the club learnt of the death of John Harrison on July 20, aged 82yrs, who played tennis at Tavistock for many years well into his late seventies. He was well liked and very competitive and in 1995 received the Outstanding Member of the Year award.

John was a keen sportsman playing cricket and rugby in his early days taking up tennis later in life. He had many interests, lived an active life, was a pilot in the Fleet Air Arm during the second WW and his career in civilian life was as a Forestry Officer. A Service of Thanksgiving for John was held at St. Andrews Church, Bere Ferrers, last Thursday conducted by the Revd Michael Lapage who is a member of the club. The cremation was held at the Weston Mill crematorium, Plymouth.
