A COURSE raising awareness of the challenges faced by deaf people is being held in Okehampton as part of a range of courses on offer this autumn.
Raising Awareness of Deaf Issues is a course including ?emergency signing? and leads onto a diploma in Deaf Studies. The course will be held at the Community Centre, Okehampton College, running for three weeks, starting on Saturday, September 29, between 9.30am-1pm.
Among the other courses on offer is Basic Skills Training, which is aimed at anybody working directly with the public, particularly in education, social and public services. There are two three-hour courses starting on Tuesday, September 23, from 10am-1pm and Tuesday, September 30, 6.30-9.30pm, in the Community Centre. These will lead to a level two certificate in Basic Skills Learning Support.
For those for whom English is not their first language, a course is running for ten weeks, starting on Friday, September 12, from 5.30-6.30pm. All abilities welcome.
