Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 4 cup semi-final
Lamerton 4
Torpoint 0
LAMERTON were expecting a tough match against a side enjoying a successful season in both league and cup.
The first half-hour was really competitive with defences on top. The best chance fell to the visitors when a cross was headed over from close range.
As half-time approached the Lamerton forwards were starting to create space with Paul Cowling causing the Torpoint defenders problems. One mazy run nearly resulted in the opener but shortly afterwards he latched on to a Kev Swift through-ball to beat the keeper.
With a one-goal advantage but playing against a strong wind in the second half Lamerton still had it all to do. They got off to the best possible start when a Will Cann shot took a cruel deflection to double the advantage.
Torpoint pushed forward but the back four defended solidly and Pete Daniel was assured in his handling. The better chances were still falling to Lamerton and the visitors? keeper did well to save close range shots from Paul Breyley and Cowling.
With a quarter of an hour remaining a great ball by Grahame Cole from the left was converted by Steve Wickett. The icing on the cake came when Wickett converted a penalty after Cowling was brought down in the box.
The final scoreline did not reflect the Torpoint performance and Lamerton know they will have another tough match on their hands in the away leg. The match was superbly handled by referee Martin Leonard.
This Saturday home to Stoke Climsland in the league, kick-off 2pm.
