THE present parking arrangements in Ford Street, Tavistock, has resulted in a one-way system for a long stretch of this road, but with cars entering from both directions.

The only escape in many cases is to mount the pavement. There are no traffic control lights and this area can now be classified as an unsafe local road.

This problem demonstrates again the need for a comprehensive study of Tavistock traffic problems.to produce a forward plan to which all the authorities can be committed. There is money available from a number of sources if the plans are properly presented. Tavistock Forward convinced the town council that this was the case in the pursuit of a mining museum. Can someone do the same for a traffic study?

Plymouth Road, packed from end to end with traffic crawling along into the roundabout is a common sight at this time of year.

This road takes all the Cornwall holiday traffic. The Pixon Lane bypass is long overdue for through traffic. At the town roundabout there are six possible in and out routes with the Plymouth Road traffic held up by a constant stream of cars coming in on the Okehampton and Whitchurch roads, claiming priority.

The main point to note is that the traffic situation cannot be tackled in a piecemeal fashion, as each change in the present set up involves problems further down the line, and proposals already floated, such as Park and Ride, multi-storeyed car park, and town bypass, need to be integrated into a comprehensive document.
