STAFF at Meadowlands in Tavistock had a shock when they arrived at work on Monday morning, to find just a foot of water left in the pool. A spokesperson for West Devon Borough Council, which owns the pool, said staff discovered a faulty valve had allowed the water to drain from the pool overnight on Sunday. She said: ?They lost five feet of water overnight ? I think they were quite shocked on Monday morning!? The spokesperson said the valve has now been replaced and staff stayed in the building overnight on Monday, to make sure the pool was being refilled properly. The water was due to be heated on Tuesday night. Kevin Wiltshire, business manager at Meadowlands, said: ?We are doing everything we can to make sure the pool re-opens first thing on Wednesday. We don?t want to put our customers out any more than we have to and we apologise for any inconvenience.? It is the second time Meadowlands has been forced to close in the last six weeks ? the pool was closed for more than ten days in January after problems affecting the ceiling of the building.
