Wayfarers Ladies.

WHITCHURCH Wayfarers ladies' travelled to Sandford, near Crediton on Sunday, expecting a tough match as Sandford had emerged winners in the two games between the sides last season.

Ann Ruddock and Lesley Smith for Whitchurch opened the batting with Ruddock being bowled out for three when Cathy Griffen took her place.

Smith and Griffen then steadily gained the runs. Smith was eventually out for 42 when she was caught by the keeper but the aggressive style of batting adopted by her replacement, Candy Capeling added to the entertainment, not to mention runs.

After 35 overs Griffen and Capeling were not out for 55 and 38 respectively. The total on the scoreboard for Whitchurch Ladies was 175 for 2, with 37 extras being awarded.

After a reviving tea for everyone on a hot day it was Sandford's turn to bat. Whitchurch bowlers were on fine form with Jo Austin bowling out the first batswoman and then running out the second one.

Ann Ruddock bowled out a third Sandford player and Whitchurch Ladies fielded at their best. Cathy Griffen bowled out three Sandford ladies and ran out a further one. With the overs running out, Sandford had lost their top batswomen and could only manage 161 for 7.

This was a well deserved win for Whitchurch Wayfarers Ladies.
