A WEST Devon nursery is celebrating after being rated as ‘good’ overall in a recent Ofsted inspection with some outstanding features.
The inspection report for Whitchurch Montessori Nursery in Greenlands, Tavistock, was recently published and found the nursery to be rated good in all four categories — effectiveness of the leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare; and outcomes for children.
The inspection of the nursery, which operates within St Peter’s School, was carried out in July this year.
The inspector noted: ‘The manager and staff are passionate about improving outcomes for children. Staff provide nurturing relationships and are good role models. The manager and staff have a strong understanding of the learning and development requirements.’
The inspector added areas it was felt the nursery could improve on to further the quality of the early years provision.
One aspect was to ensure staff, parents and other professionals provide children with consistent strategies, to support their early writing skills further, and another was to make better use of opportunities to enhance children’s independence during practical activities, to further prepare them for the next stage of their learning.
Manager Karen Ninnis said: ‘We are delighted that our hard work has been recognised and we are very proud of our achievements.’
