I WAS disappointed to see the article (Park planners reject sheltered housing bid), which recently appeared on the Okehampton Times website, when it was reported that my company?s planning application was ?not in the long-term interests of the parishioners? of Chagford. My company has spent a great deal of time and employed some of the best traffic planning consultants to examine the issue of the access at Bretteville Close, Chagford, where it meets the B3206, and still believe that this is the best access for the development that we proposed and for the traders? proposed car park. We believe additional junction improvements can be made to the Bretteville Close junction in the future should further development take place. Also, should major development take place in the area, there may be potential for another means of access off the B3206, situated away from the school access further out of Chagford. Our development would have addressed the immediate needs of Chagford; major development at Bellacouch Meadows which would have to be considered through the Local Development Framework process will be delivering development five or more years from now. Our consultant town planner has indicated that far from restricting development in Chagford, our proposals would have provided for a demonstrated need of housing for: l Both the independent and less active elderly l Young families of Chagford l The means of access for a much-needed car park. Where now will the elderly go? Where now will young people go? Out of Chagford again! How can this be in the long-term interest of these parishioners?
