Devon Women's Cup
Southway 9
Tavistock Ladies 0
THIS match was the last of the year for Tavistock and they could only field a straight eleven.
The game started with Southway attacking strongly and the first goal was slotted under the keeper.
Tavistock had their chances with Louise Evans and Kirsty Jones battling for everything. Janie Sivyer and Julie Magowan kept the ball upfield but solid defending kept them from equalising.
The second goal came from a cross which Hammond got a hand to but which she pushed to a Southway striker who slammed it into the net. The third came soon after.
The second half started badly — a reckless challenge on Louise Evans resulted in an ambulance to hospital with suspected spinal injuries. During the wait for the ambulance tempers got heated and Tavistock lost Jane Sivyer to their first ever sending off.
Tavistock, playing with only nine, conceded the fourth goal and keeper Hammond injured her hand in the process. Magowan promptly took he keeper's position and Hammond went outfield.
Tavistock never dropped their heads but Donna Burch was injured after a good run upfield which resulted in the player being booked.
Tavistock continued to try and play but hearts were not in it and despite outstanding saves from Magowan, Southway slotted in another five.
Candy Capeling pushed up from defence but Tavistock could not find the goal with only nine players, half of whom were injured.
Louise Evans luckily sustained only bruising to her lower back and was released from hospital.
Lady of the match: Wendy Stephens.
