IT has been a busy two weeks for North Devon Wheelers Cycle Club, having organised races on two consecutive Sundays.
Over the bank holiday weekend they organised a 25-mile time trial at Chulmleigh. Club members were out in force with eleven riders taking to the start. Of these eleven North Devon Wheelers Mark Lees was the fastest over the fairly flat course from Chulmleigh to Copplestone and back, in 58:16.
His time was fast enough for second place overall and when it was added to Steve Sage?s 59:18 their accumulated time of 1:57:34 also took the team award for North Devon Wheelers.
To cap a great event for the club Pete Vincent was the fastest junior/juvenile in a time of 1:7:38 and Rob Seatherton won a special prize for 13th place with his time of 1:6:20.
Other North Devon Wheelers? times were: Dave Lugger, 1:01:27; Hal Fade, 1:09:10; Nigel Bennett, 1:09:55; Lee Bradley, 1:10:55; Graham MacDonald, 1:12:10; Jim Mouat, did not finish; Ross MacDonald, did not finish.
Last weekend was the North Devon Wheelers? 15-mile club championship, which was held on the North Devon link road between South Molton and Roundswell.
The good weather and the promise of fast times encouraged eleven riders to make the early morning start.
As the previous week Mark Lees was the fastest over the course with a time of 34:24. Second place went to Steve Sage who was disappointed with his 34:59 and Ray Retter was third in 35:23.
Other times were: Dave Lugger, 36:29; Pete Vincent, 37:46; Ross MacDonald, 38:37; Matt Yates, 39:12; Lee Bradley, 40:00; Nigel Bennett, 40:29; Graham MacDonald, 40:55; Paul Vincent, 41:58.
This week proves less busy for most of the North Devon Wheelers with only Steve Sage racing. He joins forces with Mark Sanders of mid Devon CC for a 2up 10-mile time trial at Buckfastleigh and on Sunday he rides a 25-mile time trial at Holsworthy.
