Bodmin Trophies Duchy Premier Bere Alston 3 Polperro 1 BERE played into a strong wind and took their game to the visitors from the whistle and it took only ten minutes for them to take the lead. Steve Daymond?s left footed free kick was headed back at the far post into the path of Mark Wheeler who slotted home from eight yards. Bere continued to press and played some delightful football at times, but found Barry Collins in outstanding form in the Polperro goal. Wheeler?s header from 12 yards was heading towards the top corner but Collins somehow tipped it over the bar and then made a smart save from Truscott to keep his side in the game. Polperro did threaten from the long ball over the top and Simon Fisher looked dangerous and it was he who got his side back into the game, when he was allowed to turn in the box and unleash an unstoppable volley into the top corner. Polperro?s best spell of the game followed their goal as they threatened on several occasions but Howells in the Bere goal kept them at bay. Bere then stepped up the pace and Truscott was released by Hallett, who calmly rounded the advancing keeper to give the home side the half time lead. In the second half Bere stamped their authority on the game with the elements in their favour. Within ten minutes of the restart Daymond?s powerful run and shot from 14 yards secured the points for the home side. Bere could have gone on and won this game by a bigger margin ? as Truscott, Hann and Daymond all had good chances with only the keeper to beat ? but again the outstanding Collins made three fine saves. New signing James Gorst made his first appearance for the club and settled in well. The game was played in good spirit and was refereed well by Ian Spirling.
