A DECISION on the future siting of Bridestowe village hall will soon be made.
In the meantime, the village hall committee is inviting residents to submit their views on where the new hall should be sited.
The choice of building on the primary school field is, at first sight, an attractive idea. A joint venture, with more use being made of the facilities.
The views of Bridestowe residents are important, but, before they arrive at their decision, perhaps they should seek the answers to a few questions concerning the school site:
n How long will the lease be?
n Will the lease be renewed on similar terms?
n If the lease is not renewed, who will own the building?
n Who will be responsible for design and planning costs?
n Who will be responsible for building costs?
n Who will be responsible for maintenance costs, including insurance, rates etc?
n Will the village have priority of use at all times?
Once they have the answers to these questions, residents will be able to make an informed decision, but, they should ask themselves, is this still the same joint venture they originally thought?
Remember, we already have a site which we own, and the costs of building and maintaining a new hall on that site will be no more than if the hall moved to the school site.
What will we gain by moving, or, more importantly, what will we lose?
