YOUR regular correspondent Dave Weeks (Letters, December 26) once again chews the cud on the UKIP?s only policy ?leaving the EU?. He asks for the wording to ?spell out the right of any nation to leave the union?.

The words of Article 2 of Chapter 1 of the United Nations Charter should do, ?To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace?.

As every member of the EU is a member of the UN they have signed this charter, so they could hardly vote to prevent the self-determination of a member to leave the EU. Likewise I am sure the UKIP would not try to prevent any self-determination of England or Scotland to leave the British Union?

If the UKIP wishes our country England to self-govern then it has to stop UK political parties taking donations from Americans. The only country which wanted to leave the EU, Greenland, did when it wanted to.
