THE trustees of Tavistock's Kingdon House Community Association are busy canvassing the views of local residents about the type of accommodation and facilities they would like to see at the listed building in Pym Street.
The association is inviting the public to give their ideas in a simple survey.
Formerly the home of the Tavistock Gazette and Tavistock Printing Company, the building became Kingdon House Community Association in the 1970s and hires rooms to local groups within the Tavistock and district area for recreational, educational and social welfare activities.
The trustees are eager to consult as widely as possible to gather information about what individuals and groups look for when they hire rooms and the type of accommodation and facilities that make communal activities more enjoyable and comfortable.
They recognise that structurally the building needs attention and other ideas for improvements include improving the access to the premises and improving energy efficiency. Any improvements will retain the character of the early 20th century building.
As a charity whose only source of income is in hiring out rooms, Kingdon House Community Association has been delighted to receive support from Tavistock and Villages Initiative and the town council.
This support, along with an Awards for All grant has allowed the trustees to kick-start the process of planning for the future.
