RESIDENTS of Burrator had the chance yesterday to discuss what bothers them about their community at the second meeting held by the parish.

A steering group has been formed to create a new parish plan for Burrator that residents are being invited to get involved with.

The first meeting, which took place at the Burrator Inn, was attended by 22 people.

They heard from parish council vice chairman, Bridget Cole, that the aim was to get the community to take the lead in formulating a plan for the future.

The hot issues that were considered included anxiety in Walkhampton about the loss of the Inn and the need for housing for local people, concerns in Meavy about green fields being give over to new housing, ongoing arguments in Dousland and Yennadon Quarry over the plan for a new cycle track through the village centre and for the residents of Sheepstor, the commercialisation of Burrator lake and the overuse of the commons were a particular talking point.

The steering group was set up to tackle the threat of outside interference into the community.

Although more support is needed from those who reside in Burrator, especially from the Dousland and Walkhampton areas.
