STAFF from the Tavistock branch of TSB made a real difference at a local charity shop last Wednesday by donating items and volunteering — raising more than £1,000 in a single day. As part of TSB's 'Day to make a difference' initiative, the team helped to raise the profile of St Luke's Charity Shop on Duke Street, and educate people about the care the charity does within the community, as well as the local hospice. The initiative encouraged each and every TSB member of staff to spend a day getting involved in their local area to help their local community. Bob Lywood, bank manager at TSB in Tavistock, said: 'Recently we lost a member of staff to cancer and St Luke's provided real care and support for her and her family throughout an extremely difficult time. 'We saw the value of the work it does and when the opportunity came to work with the local St Luke's charity shop, my team here in TSB Tavistock were keen to return the support. 'The team really pulled together with the staff at the shop to help St Luke's to continue to offer its much needed service to our local community. 'St Luke's has done a lot of work already to raise funds and awareness and we were more than happy to help.' Staff helped to raise £525.18 on the day, which TSB matched, bringing the total to £1,050.36. St Luke's aim is to provide specialist care to people with life threatening illnesses and support their carers, in partnership with others. The emphasis of its work is on the provision of an excellent in-patient service supported by day, out-patient, home services and a hospital service.
