THE future owners of Tavistock?s popular arts and entertainment centre the Wharf are likely to be formally announced next week. The centre went up for sale in February, following the retirement of two of its volunteer directors ? the asking price for the lease, which has 24 years left to run, was £80,000. The deadline for bids passed last month. Director Peter Dickson this week told the Times that a buyer had been selected from the six final bids which had been received. Mr Dickson said: ?We have sent a letter out to our employees and the volunteers who work here. ?We asked for an outline business plan from everyone, which was part of the decision-making process, and we had a number of very attractive bids put in. It?s never easy to make a decision but we could only choose one.? Mr Dickson said a meeting was likely to be held with the successful bidders this week ? the Wharf hopes to formally announce who the buyers are next week.
