WEST Devon was in line with the national outcome in last Thursday's referendum on the Alternative Vote.

A total of 14,805 'No' votes were cast in?West Devon against changing the electoral system and 6,713 voted 'Yes'.

At 68.8% to 31.2% it was almost identical to the national picture of 67.9% to 32.1%.

The result was announced at 5.30pm last Friday at West Devon Borough Council's Tavistock offices where the votes were counted.
