A DETERMINED Tavistock team met a 24 man squad from Launceston on a damp wet day.
Both teams started well and with the game finely balanced a well worked break by Launceston brought them the early try. The Tavistock forwards worked hard with John Lord, Archie Allen, Tom Pearson, Jason Blake and Morgan Turnock all making good contributions but Launceston started to pull ahead with two more tries.
The backs struggled to break out but Zac Gorton, George Kharas, Ollie Noy Scott, Theo Jenkins, Jacob Staig and Luke Lewandowski all put in an excellent work rate. Half time saw some changes. On came new-comer Aiden Lee who played well, and then Brynmor Workman got the ball over the line for a well deserved try for Tavistock. Launceston worked their way back into the game to go on and win.
The second shorter game saw Jude White stretch his legs to score two tries, Archrie Trevarian got one and Brynmor scored again. Joe Burbage converted all the tries for the team to lift their damp spirits.
Man of the match went to Brynmor Workman.

A ROCK solid defence for the home team kept a skilful Launceston team at bay, having to deal with minimal incursions towards the Tavistock try line. Similar to Brixham, the previous week, Launceston attempted to slow down the Tavistock attacks with prolonged mauls, but Tavistock countered with some quick rips and rucks to give their backs the scope to play the attacking rugby they thrive on. Louis Peake opened the scoring in the first minute.
Tavistock tackled like their life depended on it to thwart the opposition.
Starved of possession and pressured hard the cracks started to show and Harry Richardson and Henry Varndell-Dawes added to the scoreline before half time. Aided by some great support work and hard tackling on the wing from Dan Pett and in the middle from Jack Bellamy. The Tavistock forwards Harry Richardson, Oscar Campbell and Cameron Georgel made it hard for Launceston to settle in the second half and the constant pressure from Harry Edwards, Louis Peake Henry Varndell-Dawes and Noah Berridge wore down Launceston and allowed tries from Henry, Oscar, Noah (2) and Ollie Sampson to finish the game on a high for Tavistock.

THE second game continued in a similar vein, with Tavistock dominating possession and showing strength and discipline. Once again, new recruit Ollie Sampson adding to his tally with a now trademark run down the inside centre channel, Jack Bellamy adding another with a strong run across the defence with Louis Peake bursting through the centre from his own half to score in the corner.
Tavistock did not let Launceston settle into anything like a rhythm and pressured every pass, so much so that a loose pass in the Launceston in goal area was pounced on by Louis just before half time.
Further tries from Harry Edwards, just reward for his commanding game at scrum half, and Henry completing his hat trick for the day sealed the win in the second half. Another solid game at hooker for Jack Baker combining with Oscar and Harry to win scrums against the head. Henry Varndell-Dawes' tackling and go forward skills on the wing, earning him man of the match.

THIS game was played with great commitment and a terrific attitude from both sides. Tavistock started well with some good carries from William , Tom and Toby. However Launceston, with fantastic tackling and mauling began to gain the upper hand and scores two quick tries. Tavistock responded with Logan, Billy and Tasha all running well. However Launceston were able to blunt the Tavistock attack. At half time the score was 3 -0.
In the second half, Isaac, Lily, Jonathan and Marcus got more involved and Tom and Ewan really stepped up their tackling. However in general, Tavistock did not play with as much teamwork and cohesion as in their games against Newon Abbott and Brixham, and as a result Launceston exploited this. Toby continued to run and run and was outstanding in defence and attack. He scored a consolation try in the second half to make the final score 5-1.

THE first match saw a very impressive performance from Tavistock. Tavistock took control of the match right from the off, their passing was slick, despite the mud, and their support play was really good, allowing Launceston little time to regroup whenever they made a tag.
In defence Tavistock were quick to the tag and the defensive line was compact. Overall a very gritty performance resulting in a deserved 7-3 victory. Captain Alex Richardson gained man of the match for his excellent passing.

THE second game saw Launceston dominate the first half against a Tavistock team who were suffering from standing around in the cold. The second half was much closer with Tavistock playing much better, but regrettably they could not overcome the first half deficit! Launceston won 7-4. Skye Prout was captain and Max Jordan was man of the match. Try scorers were: First game Liam Watts (2), Jack Lane (2), Joe Wheeldon (2) and Toby Noy-Scott (1). TAVISTOCK Under 7s played Launceston at home this week and due to the number of players a main match and a development game were played.
This allowed the more experienced players to play the type of match which the coaches have been working towards since the beginning of the season.
The boys showed incredible defence and their tagging was phenomenal, holding Launceston at the try line many times.
Special mention to James Lamb, Matthew Brimacombe, Max Williams and Dylan Rundle who with their team mates provided relentless defence.
The attacking play was very good with brilliant runs from Billy Spry, Christopher Wooley, Matthew Daniel and Sebastian Whitford creating wonderful tries for Luke Tyler, Dylan Rundle and Matthew Daniel.
Launceston provided a wonderful opposition with determination and speed but unfortunately were not able to curb the breaks from Tavistock too many times.
The development game was played well and it was lovely to see the older boys taking the youngsters under their wings and helping them. Great breaks made by Christopher Woolley and Matthew Brimacombe, Matthew Daniel and Max Williams scoring for Tavistock. Unfortunately the Launceston squad were faster and out-foxed the Tavistock youngsters too many times. But a good game was had by all and Launceston ending up the winners of this match at 8 – 5.
Really impressive across both games was Tavistock's teamwork, which created brilliant results.
Supportive play by all players was fantastic and running while passing seems finally to have come together.
