l TAVISTOCK Lions Club will be raising cash for the disaster appeal this Saturday. Spokesman Steve Grummitt said: ?The Farmers Market are very kindly letting us have the use of one of their stalls on a free of charge basis, so we can operate a bring and buy stall for any unwanted Christmas presents, or any other items people wish to donate and that we can sell.? The club will also be rattling collecting buckets and will be making a donation from its own funds. Helping the Lions Club with the collection will be volunteers from 1st Tavistock Scout Group. Scouts will also be handing out black bin bags containing a list of goods which are being sent to a central collection point in Newquay, being co-ordinated by the town?s Lions Club. Items which the scouts are collecting include tents, towels, bedding, milk powder suitable for babies, infants and adults, dry foods, baby bottles, bandages, plasters and cotton wool. Any donations can be handed in to the Scout Hut, Pixon Lane between 6pm and 9pm, next Monday to Friday. l There will be a bring and buy sale, coffee morning and raffle at the United Reformed Church Hall in Bere Alston at 10am tomorrow (Friday) for the disaster appeal. Anyone who would like to donated unwanted Christmas gifts should call organiser Jeanette Simpson on 01822 840598. l The Tavistock branch of the Save the Children Fund will be collecting for the disaster appeal outside Safeway in Tavistock on Saturday January 8. Donations, made out to Save the Children Fund, can also be sent to Mrs Jenny Walker, 9 Manor Road, Saxon Heights, Tavistock. l Simply Hair at Bere Alston will be raffling all the gifts which were donated to staff during the run up to Christmas, to raise money for the disaster appeal. Raffle tickets will be available at the salon during the next couple of weeks. l This Saturday, (January 8), in Northlew there will be a public breakfast in the checkroom from 9am onwards and on the following Saturday (January 15) there will be a coffee morning in the Methodist Hall. l A Cornish Rock Showcase featuring four local bands, a solo guitarist and DJ Jon will be held at Trencreek Holiday Park, Looe on Saturday January 15. Tickets at £5 are available from Ginsters Pasty Shop, Callington.
