THE work of West Dartmoor Art Group (WDAG) will be proudly on display in Peter Tavy Village Hall over the next week.

As in previous years, WDAG have been working on their paintings for their annual display from Saturday, July 20 to Sunday, July 28.

The exhibition is raising money for the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group and the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, through a raffle and percentage from the sales of the pictures or group donation.

The group meets every Wednesday to paint, to compete in the monthly in-house competition and to enjoy demonstrations by professional artists as well as enjoying fellow members’ company, critique and support.

Over the years its exhibitions have raised thousands for charity and welcomed back many returning local residents and visitors to view the work over the decades; WDAG look forward to welcoming them back again and to greeting new friends who will perhaps be visiting for the first time.

Most of the work on display is for sale, which provides visitors with the opportunity to purchase original works of art at affordable prices. Sometimes you can spot a theme at work in some of the pictures and it is interesting to surmise that this is the result of the influence of the visiting professional demonstrations.

It is also interesting to see the individual slant that the artists use for the same, or similar, subject matter and you have the opportunity to vote for your favourite picture for which a cup is awarded. The prize is avidly sought after.

Similarly The Buzz Bowl, an award given at the annual meeting to the artist presenting the best picture of a Dartmoor scene is eagerly competed for, as this is chosen by fellow members in a secret ballot.

The cup is presented by a WDAG founding member Buzz Goscombe.

There are also some postcards and unframed pictures and prints on offer as well as homemade cakes, tea, coffee and cold drinks to enjoy.

The exhibition will run each day from 10am to 6pm, except on Sunday July 28, when the exhibition closes at 4pm. Entry is free.
