LETTERS are appearing in the Okehampton Times on the interesting subject of traffic in Okehampton, and if you have space I would like to contribute.

One correspondent even mentions a bus station, which is highly desirable, but very rare. The subject of bus usage normally has a low priority. However, as county reports that the number of bus passengers has doubled, perhaps the corner is being turned.

I do not share the view that a bus station should be located on a road between Bostock's Garden Centre and the foot of Lodge Hill. That is too far from the centre and my view remains that West Bridge is the obvious place. Through-services stop there and the problem is how to incorporate the remaining few minibus services. Service 318 actually runs past West Bridge to pick up in Fore Street.

The suggested new road is, of course exactly what is required. Surely it would reduce the queue of vehicles waiting in Fore Street to turn into Market Street? However, I believe it is notoriously difficult to proceed where a private road is involved.
