LONDON Marathon runner Wendy Cooper handed over a cheque for more than £1,800 towards a West Devon project aimed at combatting domestic abuse.
The West Devon Borough Council secretary completed the famous race in April in just under five hours. Her efforts raised £1,804 for the West Devon Women's Aid Outreach Project, which tackles the problem of domestic abuse in the borough.
Wendy said the marathon was 'a fantastic experience' and one she would never forget. 'I could not have done it without the support of my family, particularly my husband, Alan, and friends and colleagues.'
Every pound collected from council staff was matched by local government union Unison, and West Devon Homes also matched their staff donations.
Outreach Project co-ordinator Janice Goodwin said the money would be put towards plans for a website and for advertising the project on parking stickers in the area. 'Wendy has done so well. She thought she might raise about £500, but this is an extraordinary amount of money,' Janice said.
