Tamar League Ordulph Taverners and Launceston 3rd XI WINNING the toss Folley put Launceston in to bat. With a good start the wickets of Launceston openers Baker and Wilton fell cheaply to Folley caught by Mills and Prescott clean bowled. With Kneebone and Christophers now at the crease an attitude of attack being the best form of defence prevailed as the pair set off on a big hitting spree. Before the damage was too severe a bowling change brought to the attack the duo of Mills and Lethbridge who very soon had a positive impact. The combination of Lethbridge?s cleverly flighted deliveries and Mills? aggressive pace soon had the Launceston pair in trouble. Mills extracting life out of the wicket was soon rearranging Kneebone?s stumps and also had Christophers trapped lbw in the space of a couple of overs. Kneebone?s rapid 29 and Christophers? 13 proved to be the backbone of the Launceston innings as Mills and Lethbridge then proceeded to fairly tear through the Launceston order. Apart from some brief defiance from Oldaker (13) and veteran Goodyer (11), little other opposition was put up by Launceston as Lethbridge and Mills finished the job off with four wickets each. A modest score of 109 was set for Ordulph to chase. The chase could not have started in a worse fashion for the Ordulph with two wickets falling in the first three overs to a lively Christophers. However Wellard and Sutton (17) rode the storm, dug in and started to put away the bad balls, allowing a 60 partnership to develop over the next 10 overs. A couple more Ordulph wickets falling to Oldaker and Wilton gave Launceston hope but Wellard was still pushing the run rate along at a cracking pace. Eventually Wellard fell trying to force a straight ball but not before his 40 hadsunk any Launceston hopes of a win. Dan Lawrence in his first League innings for the Ordulph was now at the crease with Scouse Bamford and they combined well to see the Ordulph home with no more scares. Dan Lawrence finishing with a pleasing 17 not out which included 4 fours, and Bamford holding up his end well with a 7 not out. The job was done with sixteen overs to spare, another convincing maximum point haul for the Ordulph Taverners CC 1st XI who won by 5 wickets. This week Ordulph travel to Bude.
