Falmouth 7 Tavistock 36 IN front of a large number of travelling supporters Tavistock ran out deserved winners at Falmouth on Saturday, outscoring their hosts by six tries to one and avenging an early season home defeat. The win pushes Tavistock up to fourth place in the table. Tavistock welcomed back centre Duncan Law, starting his first match since fracturing his jaw in the autumn. Duncan was soon in the thick of the action with his direct running and excellent tacking showing what the side has been missing for the past three months. The first half was a relatively even affair with Tavistock having more of the possession but being forced on occasions to defend out wide when Falmouth gained possession and ran the ball. The Tavistock scrum was totally dominant and in the lineout Andy Hunt was at his imperious best securing clean possession. This allowed fly half Josh Sutton to keep Falmouth pinned in their own half for long periods using either tactical kicking or releasing the backs on probing runs. Tavistock should have gone ahead on three occasions before they actually did score but bad ball control from a lineout catch and drive, a wayward pass and an instance of wrong option taking saw three gilt edged chances go begging. Midway through the half Tavistock lost prop Tom Hurdwell, who again was having an outstanding match, when he was felled by a punch from Falmouth second row Adie Watts. Watts was sent off for the offence. This allowed Steve Langdon onto the pitch for Tavistock, joining his son Kyle for the first time in a league match. Tavistck did end the half five points to the good when Andy Hunt finished off a second phase move to crash over the line for an unconverted try. Apart from one blip when Tavistock allowed Falmouth back into the match scoring a try, Andrew Lancaster converted by Steve Larkins the second half saw Tavvy in complete control scoring five tries. Lee Greatrex got a brace of tries, the first when he broke from a five metre scrum and dived into the corner and a second when a deft pass from Tom Dawe allowed Lee space to dart along the touchline to squeeze in. Tom himself got onto the score sheet when, after a break by centre Joe Lane, he was on hand to take the pass and score close to the posts. Duncan Law got a try using his speed and power and Josh Sutton scored the fifth when number eight Andrew Griffiths, on as a replacement for Matt Cole, broke from a five metre scrum to provide the scoring pass. Sutton converted three of the tries. Tavistock?s next league game is against Wellington at Sandy Park on Saturday 19th February. Kick off 2:30 pm.
